Giant carrot of Almolonga

It has been reported that people in Almolonga, Guatemala, after converting to evangelical Christian belief (report varies between 85% - 92%), received a miraculous transformation from a poverty-stricken city to a wealthy one. The crops, allegedly blessed by God, become so fertile that they produce giant vegetables: carrots the size of man's arm, cabbages the size of basketball, etc.

I searched over the internet to find the incident, and I found this picture to confirm the size of the carrots. They are fairly big, although far from being the world's largest. Further research found this travel blog, from a Christian believer. The surrounding area, according to the source, does not produce such a big carrot, and mostly poor.

The story, initiated by a Documentary Video by George Otis Jr titled Transformation, is well circulated among the Christian community. The original video does not say anything about carrots, but a reliable source reported that he saw a documentary video showing the giant carrots.

However, this article reported that the increased production is due to the use of chemical pesticides, and the residents suffer from an increase rate of cancer, congenital malformation, anemia, and respiratory infections.

The fact is, the vegetables are great, but the cause is inconclusive. It might be God's miracle (together with the diseases), or fertilizers, or the people, having converted to evangelical Christianity, simply work harder.
